Intermediate Powerboat
Provides the skills and theoretical knowledge needed to undergo coastal passages by day. Encouraging you to further your horizons.
Aimed at those who want to gain more experience and travel further.
Prior Experience
Candidate should be competent to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2. The course is aimed at developing pilotage and safe passage making as opposed to slow speed boat handling. A 1:1 seamanship session would be more appropriate for this.
Course Duration
2 days from 9am - 5pm
Age
We are happy for a child above the age of 12 to participate alongside a parent or guardian. A child under the age of 16 participating on their own must do so on a specific youth powerboat course.
Instructor
We operate 3 students to 1 instructor per boat. We find that this gives a good interaction between other participants and allows you to learn from viewing someone else execute a manoeuvre.
Boats
Our boats are all fitted with forward facing jockey seats for all occupants, this means that no-one is sat on the side of the tubes. Boats are fitted with Garmin and Icom electronics. All our boats are inspected annually by the RYA and equipped for training.
Our Boats
Recently, new rules have been brought into place for RYA intermediate and advanced powerboat courses. It became a requirement for all boats, just like our Tornados, to have forward facing seats behind the console. We are proud to be the only Recognised RYA Training Centre on the Isle of Man to be able to offer this. We completely support this, as it means you are undergoing training in vessels that are appropriate to the task. Namely, operating safely during coastal passages in potentially rough water.
The benefits for this are numerous, all candidates are sat astride a jockey seat, you are able to stand to take the impact of waves with your knees, while having something to hold in front of you. Candidates are also within view of the controls and earshot fo the instructor, maintaining a learning environment.
